Stay at home musings..

These past 7 weeks have been tough for all of us and the light at the end of the tunnel is not yet visible. Those of us who are healthy are thankful, but there’s always the chance we could contract the virus any day, so anxiety is always present. And while my husband and I shelter at home for the most part, I do need to get outside everyday for a walk or bike ride or just to see other people!

It’s human nature to want to be with others and this pandemic is depriving us of this basic need. But I get it-there’s no other way for the curve to flatten and the virus to retreat. So while I’m doing my part, here are some observations I’ve made both about myself and about others:

  • A Virtual Hug just doesn’t cut it. I miss hugging my friends.
  • When I’m out walking, I try to say hello to everyone I pass-only about half respond.
  • I don’t like wearing a mask-it’s apocalyptic, creepy and hard to breathe if you’re trying to get exercise. But the professionals say it makes a difference so there you have it. Not sure we will ever know if it really does.
  • Netflix produces some really cheesy movies and crappy TV series, but I’m watching them anyway because I’ve watched all the good stuff and have nothing else to watch!
  • I feel good when I check in on my friends by phone-it’s nice to have an actual conversation and not just a text.
  • Our son and his girlfriend came over for dinner and we were just so happy to interact with other people around a table! Amazing what you take for granted.
  • We support our local restaurants that are doing takeout at least once a week because they need our help to survive.
  • My husband and I both realize how important it is to be kind to each other during this time. We are around each other more than we’ve ever been and it’s easy to find fault-but we really try not to.
  • That being said, I definitely need my space and my alone time!
  • We are all dealing with this situation differently and no-one is right or wrong-it’s important to express how you feel and not keep it bottled up inside.
  • Exercise, work and of course a good glass of wine is always helpful.
