Books I recommend

Book Review: Where the Crawdads Sing

I recently read “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is Delia’s debut novel. Previously known as a non-fiction writer with an emphasis on her adventures as a wildlife scientist, Delia’s transition to fiction is impressive and it’s a great read!

The writing is engrossing with effective character development and a storyline that I found mostly realistic for the time and the setting. (Others do not agree and have said so in their reviews) The main character Kya has had a hard life from childhood right up until her adult years- sometimes it seems almost too difficult to imagine some of the challenges she endures-but she develops into a strong character and overcomes most challenges that come her way. It’s also important to keep in mind that this is fiction!

I loved the supporting characters who ultimately become a major part of this story-without giving away the plot, I’ll just say that it was reassuring to read about kind souls who wanted the best for Kya. Of course, there are also some who are not so nice..

I would definitely recommend this book to women of all ages-it’s an easy read and will be hard to put down once you get into the story.

I won’t be surprised if this book is optioned as a movie in the near future.
